Target Group
- Advanced Doctoral Candidates
- Postdoctoral Researchers
- Participants must belong to the faculties of Humanities or Social Sciences
This course aims to enable participants to successfully publish their English language articles in academic journals. It will create an understanding of the publication process of peer reviewed journals.

We will develop individual strategies for the writing and publishing of research articles in the English language.
Key topics include:
  •  Planning publications strategically.
  • Criteria for journal selection (impact factors, rejection rates, publication schedules, Open Access, ...).
  • How to choose a great title and write the perfect abstract.
  • The peer review system: stakeholders, processes, benefits, criticism.
  • and much more

Participants are expected to actively partake in writing exercises and group discussions between presentations sequences. Power Point slides of the presentation will be made available after the workshop.

    • Please list your academic publications so far.
    • What’s your current research project, and have you taken any steps yet to get any results from it published? If so, what were those?
    • Please attach an abstract or synopsis of your current research project as a text sample.
    • (Do you give permission to use parts of your text sample as material for the course, i.e. to be shared with everyone present? It’s ok if you’d rather not.)
    • Please list at least three specific publication-related issues you hope to learn about during the workshop.
    • Please bring a laptop to facilitate writing exercises if possible.
